Air purifiers for small rooms: a clearer shortlist
A small room still needs a properly stated clean-air delivery rate. The largest area printed on the box is rarely the most useful comparison.
The short answer
Use room dimensions first, then compare a stated air-change basis or known smoke CADR. Do not compare Coway Airmega 100’s 810 ft² one-ACH claim directly with a 214–222 ft² figure at 4.8 ACH.

An example, not a universal room prescription
A 10 × 12 ft room has an area of 120 ft². AHAM’s general smoke-CADR rule of two-thirds of room area gives 80 cfm. Our room calculator also checks ceiling volume against a 4.8-ACH arithmetic screen and uses the higher result. This is a transparent starting point, not a measurement of pollution removal in your home.
The two Levoit pages list CADR without identifying the pollutant, so The Home Briefing does not silently relabel their figures as smoke CADR. Missing information is not evidence that a purifier cannot work in the room; it means the comparison needs another verified source.
When similar coverage hides useful differences
Core 300-P and Vital 100S-P each list 222 ft² at 4.8 ACH. Their controls, cabinet shape and pre-filter arrangement are more useful distinctions than that tied number. Core 300-P is distinct from the smart Core 300S-P. Vital 100S-P lists smart control and a washable pre-filter.
Coway Airmega 150 lists 214 ft² at 4.8 ACH and 153 cfm smoke CADR. Its shallow rectangular body creates a different placement choice from a cylinder. Preserve the manufacturer’s clearance around air inlets and outlets.
Bedrooms need evidence at the speed you use
Minimum noise and maximum clean-air delivery are usually not measured at the same speed. EPA explains that lower fan speeds filter less air. Avoid choosing a model by combining its quietest noise number with its highest delivery number as though both happen together.
Also check whether lights can be dimmed, whether controls require an app and how you will access the filter in its intended location. The Home Briefing has not tested overnight sound, airflow or usability.
Budget for the exact filter
A replacement-filter purchase price is not a yearly bill. Different layers can have different intervals, and a promotional filter listing may not contain a complete replacement set. Confirm the exact model code and pack contents before using the filter-cost comparison.
